Scoring:

Give yourself 1 point for each yes answer.

0 - 5 points: Congratulations! Your metabolism is in much better shape than most. If you scored zero points, I would say your metabolism is probably well stoked! But even a few of the smaller problems on this list are a sign that your health could be better. Keep reading!

6-10 points: There is room for improvement, and your body is already telling you this. Learning to nourish your metabolism may help!

11-15 points: You probably knew before you took this that your metabolism was stressed. But there is hope! Keep reading!

16 - 20 points: You are having a rough time, aren’t you! All these little “normal” ailments add up to quite a lot of problems. You have probably tried diets and exercise programs that have left you feeling even worse than before you started them. But there is hope!

How Did You Do?

So, how did you do?

Ideally, we would all be able to answer “no” to each of those questions.

While it is very typical to have some of or even many of these health symptoms listed in the quiz, it is not normal.

And if you use many of the standard American remedies to deal with these symptoms, you may feel a bit of superficial relief, but leave the root cause, your stressed metabolism, unchanged. You might even be making it worse.

Many things we try to do to improve our health and metabolism may actually backfire. Especially trying fad diets, overly ambitious exercise programs, and even following a lot of advice from the mainstream media.

But is there a better way to relieve, even nourish, a stressed metabolism? I believe the answer is yes.

A "Stoked" Metabolism is a Nourished Metabolism

In her book, The Nourished Metabolism, Elizabeth Walling gets to the root of many of these problems.

Her gentle, scientifically-based approach is helping people improve their health and nourish their metabolisms. Her ideas help the metabolism function more like it was designed to perform.

The Nourished Metabolism

I first read this book a few weeks ago, and have been implementing some of her ideas into my daily life. Some things, I was doing already. Her in-depth research has helped me better understand what I’ve been doing right, and what I could do better. It has helped me understand why some things have been working, and some have not.

Reading her book helped me to better understand how emotional stress causes physical problems. I also learned more about why it is not always better to work out longer and harder to increase metabolism.

For most of my life, I have thought of metabolism as strictly a matter of calorie burning, and fat gain or loss. But reading the Nourished Metabolism has helped round out my view of what metabolism is, and how to boost metabolism.
